ABOUT LAKE COMO
The dramatic and picturesque Lake Como is one of Italy’s premiere destination points. Surrounded on all sides by majestic mountains and blessed with a moderate climate year-round, the lake has become a highly sought after tourist attraction world-wide.
Lake Como's dramatic landscape was formed by glaciers and benefits from a backdrop of Alpine mountains which are equally gorgeous in all seasons, from snow-capped to lush green. Located 31 miles north of Milan and bordering Switzerland, not only is it in an ideal position, but locals have many things to boast about such as the numerous luxurious villas with incredible landscapes, absolutely charming lakeside villages with terraced hills with elaborate gardens. You will never tire of the ever-changing colors of the water and sky. It is so breathtaking that it is next to impossible to fully capture its beauty in photographs.
There is plenty to do on Lake Como - on water, land and in the sky. You can experience the lake from all angles and be assured our guides will provide entertaining history and knowledge of this incredible and breathtaking place.
While the scenery is dramatic, the roads are very windy and narrow, which make driving a hair raising and somewhat stressful experience. If you are not used to a manual transmission, it is also difficult to find a car rental that supports automatic. We can arrange drivers and help you with ferry and public transport schedules, which will take a lot of hassle out of getting around Lake Como and allow you to spend more time enjoying a little more wine without having to get behind the wheel.
It goes without saying, Lake Como became more known outside of Italy when George Clooney purchased a villa on its shores in 2001, and when films such as Casino Royal, Star Wars and House of Gucci brought more attention to the area. Hollywood, Bollywood, and social media star weddings, adverts and fashion events have contributed to sparked interest and increased tourism and investment in the area. But, we still enjoy living like a local and experiencing Italian culture at its finest. What we find to be the most charming is the culture, the beautiful and natural dramatic landscape, and the kindness and hospitality of the locals. And we have some gems in the area of food and wine to add to this experience.
